The automotive world is collectively revving up their hype machines in the ramp up to the Detroit Motor Show next month, and with this Infiniti started its campaign to build anticipation for the potential debut of a new model, thought it will undoubtedly wear the ‘concept’ moniker first.
The darkened image reveals little except for a seemingly new front end design with a much larger grille than we’re used to seeing from the Japanese premium marque, flanked by a rather squinty set of headlight.
According to the press material, this car will be previewing Infiniti’s future fully electric crossover as well as a near-ready version of the EV platform it will be running on that will go on to underpin other vehicles under the Renault-Nissan Alliance. A production version is due somewhere in 2019 to coincide with company’s 30th anniversary, so the car brought to Detroit should be quite close to production.
There, Infiniti is also keen on showing its new interior design language will look like, which should be a big step up from where they are currently as well as incorporating the more expansive lounge-like cabins that EVs make possible.
"The industry is at a technological inflection point," said Roland Krueger, Chairman and Global President of INFINITI Motor Co. "As such, INFINITI has a compelling vision as a luxury challenger brand to bring a full portfolio of beautifully-designed electric vehicles to customers around the world. We will focus on developing the full portfolio of e-power and EVs.”
