Infiniti’s LE concept sedan, unveiled last week at the New York Auto Show, is especially significant as a similar version is slated for production within the next two years – Infiniti’s first zero emissions luxury sedan.
The luxury sedan boasts the curvaceous looks which are the hallmarks of the current Infiniti lineup but with more aerodynamic prominence – as you can do with electric vehicles.
Inside are advanced telematics including EV connected services, Infiniti Personal Assistant and Infiniti Connection.
And underneath are the latest, compact lithium-ion batteries.
According to Ben Poore, Infiniti America’s vice president: “Infiniti believes the future of luxury is sustainable luxury and we intend to continue taking a leadership role. As a ‘production intent’ concept, most of what you see in the LE Concept will become a reality, including its zero emission powertrain, advanced telematics, cutting-edge design, advanced connected services and premium appointments.”
The Infiniti LE concept is sized about the same as the current Infiniti G sedan but its aerodynamic styling affords a drag Cd of just 0.25. And the sleek looks include several cues from the previous Essence and EMERG_E concepts.
At the front the solid front grille hides the battery charge point while the rear diffuser contains special lighting for the wireless charger.
Interior space is enhanced by housing the batteries under the floor on the passenger side. This leaves room for the stylish violet-accented luxury seats and extensive telematics functionality.
Infiniti says development of the production version of the LE will focus on engaging driving dynamics (an Infiniti ‘non-negotiable’) highlighted by brisk acceleration.
The Infiniti brand will re-launch in Australia late this year.
