Not before time Infiniti’s range is set to include a compact model – the handsomely-styled Q30 which made its global debut in Frankfurt.
The European location was no doubt chosen in part by the fact the Q30 will be the first Infiniti vehicle to be manufactured in Europe – at the Nissan plant in Sunderland, UK.
The all four-cylinder engine lineup includes two 1.6-litre petrol versions (90kW or 115kW) and either and 80kW 1.5-litre diesel or a 125kW 2.2-litre. Upcoming Premium and Sport models go to a 155kW 2.0-litre petrol powerplant.
On the transmission front, the choice is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic or a six-speed manual.
Styling closely follows the 2013 concpet car and is clearly heavily influenced by the Infiniti global direction – the double-arch grille and double-wave bonnet for starters.
But it’s the signature forward-arcing C-pillar which gives the Q30 a striking appearance.
Infiniti will launch the Q30 in three model grades – base, Premium and Sport. Full price and specifications for Australia will be announced closer to launch.
