Infiniti will manufacture its first cars in Europe from 2015 after Nissan received approval for a major expansion of its Sunderland, UK assembly plant.
Backed by an investment of $388-million, the 25,000 square-metre facility will house a new body shop and final assembly area and create more than 1,000 new jobs. This will lift annual capacity at Sunderland to more than 500,000 cars – making it the largest-ever British car manufacturing plant.
Slated for production at Sunderland is Infiniti’s first premium compact vehicle – based on the Q30 concept car being unveiled this week at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
