Infiniti stole the headlines at the Geneva Motor Show with its Emerge-E mid-engined electric sports car.
Developed in Europe, the Infiniti Emerge-E is powered by twin mid-mounted electric motors delivering 300kW and zero to 100km/h in around four seconds. It’s a range-extender electric with a tiny petrol engine to extend motoring beyond the current 48kms limit of pure electric power.
The design of the compact two-seater is a radical departure for Infiniti and points to an exciting future for the brand which re-launches in Australia later this year.
But it’s the packaging of the Infiniti Emerge-E which had the engineers in Geneva talking. Wrapping the twin electric motors, lithium ion battery pack, four inverters and the three-cylinder petrol engine into the tiny 4.4-metre sports car is very clever.
