Infiniti Confirms ‘Prototype 10’ Aimed At Pebble Beach

After first making its rounds last week, it seems that left-field Japanese luxury marque Infiniti have decided to come out and confirm that it will indeed be bringing a successor to last year’s sensational Prototype 9 electric performance concept. The creatively-named Prototype 10 is destined to make its global debut at the upcoming Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and is expected to preview the brand’s engineering capabilities and influence the design of upcoming models.

“The Infiniti Prototype 10 echoes the layout and design of some of the most evocative car designs of all time, where power was celebrated through high-powered single-seat competition cars. Our new concept speaks of an electrified future, something which is reflected in its form & details. It is appropriate that we found inspiration in an optimistic bygone era in which cars were characterised by the simple love of driving.” — Karim Habib, Executive Design Director, INFINITI

The Prototype 10, when it breaks cover next week, will be the fist project to be entirely conceptualised & brought to fruition under the eye of new design director Habib. Additionally, the 10 will be a cooperative project between Infiniti’s design studios in the US, the UK, and Japan, marrying various different schools of aesthetics and luxury together.

While last years’ Prototype 9 was a drool-inducingly pretty throwback and the Prototype 10 a thoroughly modern affair, the latter clearly remains in the same theme set by its predecessor. It’s an open-top, electric performance car, and Habib’s confirmation of its single-seater layout debunks rumours of a possible passenger’s seat. And while last years’ concept surprised us by being totally-electric, we’d be amazed if anyone thinks the Prototype 10 runs on unleaded.
