Alfa Romeo Racks Over 100 Orders For Giulia QV

The Alfa Romeo Giula has captured the hearts and minds of enthusiasts and critics alike, and has injected some much needed flair into a long-stagnant segment. So much flair in fact, that Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles is hoping that the ‘Giorgio’ platform on which the Giulia is built will inject a little nonsoché into the rest of its cars.

The boss of Alfa Romeo, Reid Bigland, said that the platform was simply too good not to be exploited further. Speaking to AutoNews, Bigland said that “modifying that [Giorgio] platform to spawn additional FCA products is a possibility. We’ve got a jewel here. In terms of driving dynamics, it’s best in class, so it’s going to be difficult to keep that exclusively for Alfa Romeo.”

Bogland went on to say that the Giorgio platform was versatile enough to be adapted to cars both above and below the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio in terms of market placement, which may result in Giorgio-based Maserati’s or Dodge’s. The platform itself cost almost $1.5bil to develop, and at present, will be used to expand the Alfa Romeo lineup to encompass all of its targeted segments, going from a hatchback (possibly to replace the MiTO) to a full-size saloon (something like a 166, maybe).
