Mitsubishi will roll out the European version of its RVR Compact Crossover at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
The European sibling of the RVR is called ASX and will be powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged direct injection diesel engine. In Japan, the RVR has a I.8-litre petrol powerplant under the bonnet.
While Mitsubishi is calling the vehicle a 'Concept', production versions of the ASX will hit the company's European dealerships before the middle of the year. The virtually identical RVR goes on sale in Japan this month.
Featuring the new Mitsubishi corporate front grille (first seen in the Lancer and also the Outlander), the ASX/RVR is a five-seater like the Renault Koleos, Volkswagen Tiguan and Audi Q5.
The turbo-diesel engine for the European ASX is a joint development by Mitsubishi and its commercial vehicles division Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It features 'Automatic Stop & Go' technology for enhanced fuel consumption and drives through a six-speed manual transmission.
Officially, Mitsubishi Australia is not currently confirming the RVR/ASX for the Australian market however local sales from would seem to be a certainty as it would fit nicely into the domestic model lineup - smaller than the competent Outlander and Challenger SUVs.
We would be betting on a mid-year arrival in Australia and pricing to start from below $30,000.
