Genesis G90 Revealed, The New Flagship From Hyundai’s New Luxury Sub-Brand

Hyundai have officially launched their first car under the Genesis luxury sub brand.

Earlier this year the company said that they would be launching five new cars under the Genesis brand and the first is the Genesis 90 aka as the Genesis EQ900 in Korea.

The new G90 comes close in dimensions to that of a Mercedes Benz S-Class yet will most likely be priced around that of the Mercedes Benz E-class, Audi A6 or BMW 5-Series. 

The design of the new Genesis G90 was overseen by Chief Design Officer Peter Schreyer at Hyundai’s new Prestige Design Division, using a design language they have termed as 'Athletic Elegance',

The Genesis G90 will ship with a choice of three engines a  V6 3.3-litre T-GDI (272kW); V6 3.8-litre GDI (231kW); or V8 5.0-litre GDI (312kW).

The 312kW V8 can sprint from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds, helped by 520Nm of torque. The 3.3l twin turbo V6, boasts strong performance throughout the rev-range, capable of 80-120 km/h overtaking manoeuvrers in 13.0 seconds thanks to its 510Nm of torque. Each of the engines are matched to a Eight-speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission.

Inside is where Hyundai/Genesis have made giant strides the upholstery is covered in Italian leather, interior trim consists of real wood and aluminum. The seats are ergonomically certified and offer a true first class experience, the driver's seat has 22-way power adjustable and 14-way adjustable for the others.

There's a surround sound system by Lexicon, wireless phone charging, a central 12.3-inch HD screen in the dash and the all important media screens for rear passengers.

 Safety has also been bolstered with the addition of emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive headlights, blind-spot monitoring, and driver alertness monitoring.

Genesis G90 models that are sold in Korea will also gain a Highway Driving Assistance system which, will allow for a near-autonomous driving experience. 

No word yet on what the plans are for Australia.
