Mazda Australia has announced a free service program to rectify potential power steering problems in previous generation Mazda3 models.
Mazda says the Mazda3 models affected were produced between 2 April 2007 and 30 November 2008.
The free service program is to attend to the Electro Hydraulic Power Assist System (EHPAS).
Mazda has received reports of blockages inside the steering system’s hydraulic pipes which can cause the electric oil pump to fail. If this happens, power-assist for the steering is lost and the power steering malfunction light on the dashboard will be displayed.
Even when the system stops operating, the Mazda3 is still operational – but drivers will detect a heavier feel to the steering which will make tight parking maneuvers difficult.
Mazda Australia is contacting owners of affected Mazda3s to book them in for the free service. If you own one of these vehicles, contacting your Mazda dealer could speed-up the process.
