When Ford announced that it would be resurrecting the GT as a hyper-modern, no compromise supercar for the 2017 model year, the plan was to limit production to just 500 examples with each one going to a select buyer (who applied beforehand) handpicked and deemed worthy of ownership by the Detroit automaker themselves.

More recently, they’ve elected to double that figure to 1,000 units because demand was just out of control all over the world, and especially following the reveal of a semi-controversial document Ford makes would-be GT buyers sign to agree to not sell the car within a certain period - to curb the practice of flipping it soon after for a profit.

Over this past weekend, however, Dearborn brass have made another follow-up announcement saying that the revised number has been upped yet again, this time by an additional 350 units. The procedure would be carried over from the car’s original launch, requiring interested parties to submit their application for review. Should they be accepted, more instructions would then follow.

In case you’ve got a very large sum of money lying around, why not try your hand at owning a Ford GT as the books are to be reopened on November 8th and will stay open until the end of December 7th. Previously, Ford released an estimated price for a new GT to be around the $500,000 US Dollar mark, and we imagine that to increase by a touch for this newest 2019 batch.

Apparently, Ford is more concerned with new buyers who are interested in using the car in the real world rather than wealth or status. Basically, they’re avoiding those who could or might end up treating it more like an exhibit than an actual car. It’s also a bonus if you’ve previously owned other prominent performance cars by Ford or have had a history with various supercar of past eras.

With the car’s production still centred around Multimatic in Canada and the pace still being quite unrushed, the end date for the GT’s newly modified production run should run way past the original’s cut off point of October 2020. But, really, we know that the slow burn will only make the GT even more sought after.
