Ford fans didn’t miss-out at Pebble Beach as just down the road at the annual Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, the ‘Blue Oval’ company took the covers off a special 2013 Ford Shelby GT Cobra built to honour it’s Late racing great Carroll Shelby.
The Ford Shelby GT500 Cobra, marking 50 years since the debut of the first Shelby Cobra, employs a 850 horsepower (636kW) supercharged V8 engine sourced from Ford Racing.
In essence a wide-body Mustang, the one-of-a-kind Shelby GT500 Cobra sports 20-inch alloy wheels and 13-inch wide, 345-section rear tyres, a wide-bodykit rear-end, unique bonnet and the hallmark Shelby colour scheme from the 1960s – ‘Guardsman Blue’ with ‘Wimbledon White’ stripes.
In keeping with Carroll Shelby’s philanthropic generosity, the special Ford Shelby GT500 Cobra will be touring America to assist charities and other associations loved by the greay man.
Ford also announced its Product Development Centre in Dearborn, Michigan will be re-named to honour Carroll Shelby the man who for the last 60 years developed some of Ford’s best high-performance road and racing cars and launched the careers of some of the world’s best race drivers including multiple Bathurst winner Allan Moffat.
