‘Rear-enders’ are the curse of car drivers the world over. Those often minor bingles when a second of inattention from the driver behind you results in a bump which so easily could have been avoided.
Well Ford in Germany is currently testing a pioneering new ‘Early Warning’ brake light system which could reduce these impacts.
It’s interactive technology involving wireless car-to-car communications which will see the lead vehicle send a signal to the car behind when it is braking. A dashboard light illuminates to warn the following drivers that the car in front is barking (particularly beneficial on winding roads or when visibility is poor).
“Car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communications represent one of the next major advancements in vehicle safety,” revealed Ford’s research chief Paul Mascarenas. “Ford is committed to further real-world testing here and around the world with the goal of implementation in the foreseeable future.”
