This is the first look given to the public of the Ford’s latest special edition Mustang GT. Called the Eagle Squadron, the military aviation-themed one-off is the Blue Oval’s salute to the American fighter pilots who served in the Royal Air Force during World War II.

It will be making its debut appearance at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK later this month, where it will run up the hillclimb course at the hands of professional drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr, who was also heavily involved in the creation of the car through his aftermarket boutique modifiers, RTR Vehicles.

The Mustang GT Eagle Squadron wears a multi-tone finished exterior, which blends shades of military camouflage and decal, going so far as to have the RAF’s sigil embossed on the car’s roof in a matte finish. After it’s premiere at Goodwood, it is to be auctioned to support the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA)’s youth education programmes in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

“Supporting young pilots through the EAA charity auction reflects Ford’s aviation history, tracing back to the company’s early days and the Arsenal of Democracy during WWII,” said Darrell Behmer, Ford Mustang design chief. “The Eagle Squadron Mustang GT build with Vaughn and the Ford design team is a great way to honor our heroes and keep the spirit of aviation alive for the next generation of American pilots.”

Powerful and menacing-looking, this one-of-a-kind beast takes its inspiration from World War II Royal Air Force Eagle squadrons that flew over the fields of Goodwood nearly 80 years ago. The three Eagle Squadrons included a diverse group of American volunteer pilots who risked their lives fighting in the skies over northern Europe, including the British coast and France prior to the U.S. entering the war.

The one-of-a-kind Eagle Squadron Mustang GT has been fitted with some special mechanical modifications as well, chief among which is a Ford Performance supercharger kit that lifts power from the 5.0-litre Coyote V8 to 700hp (522kW). Apart from that, it’s also been equipped with an RTR carbon fibre wide body kit and ‘Tactical Performance’ suspension package.
