Ford Australia have announced the 2020 updates for the facelifted 6th-generation Mustang Fastback and Convertible, with the headlining change being the addition of a set of retro-inspired exterior colour options.
These new four paint options are inspired from the most iconic Mustang looks of the past and are termed ‘Heritage Hues’, comprising of Grabber Lime and Twister Orange, adding to current selection of Grabber Blue and Bullit’s Dark Highland Green. Elsewhere on the selection of ‘normal’ exterior colours are another are two new ones: Iconic Silver and Red Hot.
“These bright, vibrant retro colours are trending in design – in home furnishings, sportswear and even appliances,” said Barb Whalen, Ford colour and materials manager. “Aspirational and confident, they are fun, youthful colours that make a statement of how you want the world to see you and who you want to be. And your car is an extension of that.”
Additionally, the 2020 Mustang update brings the Black Shadow Pack for the GT Fastback variant. The look pack is an extra $1,000 but adds some unique touches to for even more of a visual edge to match the V8 muscle such as a black roof, black bonnet and side stripes, dark-finish 19-inch alloys, and black badging throughout.
“The Black Shadow pack takes the Mustang GT Fastback to another level,” said Mustang Chief Program Engineer, Carl Widmann. “It gives the classic Mustang lines a sinister flavour that really adds a raciness and competition look to it, and harks back to some of the graphic and decal packages that we’ve had in the past.”
Apart from the new customisation options, there aren’t all that much to shout about as different from the more substantial update the range received in 2018, which included the 12.4-inch digital instrument display as well as the optional forged 19-inch alloys and Recaro seats - all of which are still available.
Ford expects the updated Mustang for the 2020 model year to arrive in dealerships nationwide in November 2019 with prices and further details slated to surface as that on-sale date approaches.
