Ford has revealed the Mondeo ST-Line at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and while it does add a touch snarl to the blue oval’s large sedan’s interior and exterior, there are no performance enhancements to speak of. Hence the ‘Line’ moniker.

Until Ford decides to bring back the full ST variant for the Mondeo, this ST-Line will at least make the car look fast despite not actually having the credentials to back it up. That said, the standard Mondeo isn’t a slow or uninvolving car through the corners.

The aggressive treatment starts with the Mondeo ST-Line’s perimeter, where it now wear’s an all-round bodykit, it wears new 19-inch matte gunmetal grey alloy wheels. A subtle rear spoiler is optional on the sedan but standard on the estate and the car is also lowered by 10mm as a result of its sports suspension.

This move gives more choice to cater to a wider swatch of possible Mondeo owners. Those who are willing to spend extra on their car can now spec it with the luxurious Vignale trim or, now, the sportier ST-Line trim.

In the UK where the ST-Line makes its debut, it will be offered only as a package upgrade if the upper-tier engines are selected: the 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engines in either tune. Both come mated to Ford’s Powershift automatic transmission.

Inside, the sportier treatment continues with sports seats with contrasting red stitch work, a perforated leather steering wheel and metal foot pedals.

Right now, it’s not clear how many markets Ford intends to introduce the Mondeo ST-Line in, but where as the Vignale trim comes at a higher price and more buyers are looking to add a little more zing to their car as opposed to ultimate luxury, the ST-Line should have broader appeal.
