Ford’s 2018 Mustang is looking like a much more rounded car with each new tidbit that leaks out ahead of its full market launch, and not just because Euro NCAP recently updated its safety score to 3 stars. Remember, there’s also a new 10-speed automatic and an flash all-digital instrument cluster.
Ahead of its tentative production start date in early October, Ford has unveiled a new appearance pack for the car called, cutely, the Pony Pack. It will be offered only for variants with the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine and adds some retro touches to the facelifted Mustang. And yes, quite a fair bit of good old American bling.
It starts off with a nostalgic nod with the Pony-in-the-corral front grille and logo surround, finished in chrome of course, a badge design that originated more than 50 years ago while the original car was still in concept form. Apart from that, Ford adds in 19-inch polished aluminium wheels, a ‘bright’ belt line and window trim for the fastback body style, side stripes, and a tri-bar pony badge on rear deckled appliqué.
Inside, the Mustang EcoBoost with Pony Pack will pretty much remain as it is in standard form except for the unique floor carpeting with Ebony embroidered pony logo. Given that Ford is disclosing it at this early stage, the pack must be one of the headlining options for the forthcoming 2018 Mustang.
