Not here, unfortunately.

Ford Mustang EcoBoost Now Has Electronic Burnout Feature

If you think a Mustang is cool only if it’s got a V8, think again. Along with the refresh of the pony car, Ford has thought it prudent to include an ‘electronic line-lock’ feature to its forced-induction EcoBoost model, likely to stave off any critics accusing it of being any less of a Mustang (or possibly choke them to death with tyre smoke).

While the feature is claimed to heat the tyres for better track-day usability (warmer tyres make for better grip), we can’t help but state the obvious, that this burnout functionality is designed for yobs who want to show off. The line-lock feature is now standard on all Mustang variants, automatic or manual, and is intended for use only on racetracks (let’s see how this holds up).

With the facelift, the 12.0-inch LCD driver supervision display also gets new visuals along with the line-lock feature, featuring “a spinning alloy wheel kicking up a cloud of smoke” when the feature is engaged. Mature. Engaging the system requires nothing more than a couple of button presses, which first locks the front brakes before another button press releases the rear brakes and allows the driver to floor it and make merry with the rear wheels.

As much fun as this seems (watch the video for some tyre carnage), it’s unlikely that line-lock will make it to Aussie-bound Mustangs when the facelift model arrives in the near future. That might be a good thing though, especially if you live near the sort of intersection where yobs and hoons congregate.
