Ford Performance has got to be proud.
You might not have heard of Pursuit Systems, but this writer can guarantee you’ve seen their work, whether you realised it or not. Pursuit is the go-to company for filmmakers in need of specialist equipment & crew to film high-octane car chase scenes, be it for films or advertisements. And while their job is to show you kickass shots of cars going fast, the cars behind the camera are just as important. High-performance SUVs usually win their favour and their latest edition, the Ford Edge ST, is no different.
“Speed, acceleration, braking, handling, even roominess – the Edge ST has it all. Our shoots often demand a lot of the equipment we use, and especially the vehicles. In every way, Edge ST measures up.” — Mike Johnson, CEO, Pursuit Systems
The Edge ST for Pursuit Systems has been tweaked specially for its use here, and so it packs things like half-tonne camera rig on the roof, specially-developed 4-point individual air suspension, a specially-fitted roll-cage, and a flat-black wrap to keep the car from reflecting off the vehicles it’s chasing.
“We’ve never done anything like this before with an SUV, because there’s never been an SUV like the Edge ST in our showroom. It has the performance chops and utility to keep up with fast-paced moviemaking.” — Mark Grueber, Spokesperson, Ford Motor Company
It’s also been said that the Edge ST that Pursuit Systems runs has also been retuned. As standard, the 2.7-litre V6 Ecoboost engine puts out a healthy 250kW and 515Nm, putting that power down to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. While the gearbox and all-wheel drive system are beyond question, we can’t help but wonder what numbers are being generated by that ‘reworked’ mill.
The Endura ST-Line that we’ll get won’t receive that Ecoboost mill, instead making do with a 2.0-litre biturbo diesel engine with 175kW of power, easily outgunning a Ranger Raptor. If local tastes are any indicator, Ford Australia had best be looking at somehow making that engine fit in an Aussie-spec Endura, because looking at the numbers, we most certainly want it.
