Ford Europe, based in Cologne, Germany has partnered with steering specialist Takata to develop a new generation adaptive steering system which will be introduced in Europe next year.
Designed to deliver the best of both world – easy parking maneuverability and more agility at high speeds, adaptive steering constantly changes the steering ratio (it’s normally fixed) to provide ideal response in all conditions.
Ford’s system uses a precision-controlled actuator (electric motor and gearing system) inside the steering wheel so no change is required to the traditional hardware.
No word yet on specific models or of the system will feature on Australian market Fords.
