The headline says: “Mondeo: The New Face of Ford Offers 10 Advanced Technologies not available on Camry, Diesel More Fuel Efficient Than Camry Hybrid.”
Call us sensitive, but to us, that sounds like Ford has declared war on Australia’s best-selling mid-size car.
So we’re waiting for some ‘pushback’ from Toyota.
In the meantime Ford went on to confirm the all-new Mondeo will arrive next year boasting a six-model range (‘Ambiente’, ‘Trend’ and ‘Titanium’ grades in both hatchback and wagon body styles).
The all-new Ford Mondeo range will include EcoBoost petrol and Duratorq turbo-diesel engines driving through Ford’s latest-generation six-speed automatic transmission.
Ford says the turbo-diesel Mondeo will return a combined-cycle fuel consumption figure better than the Camry’s ADR81/02 figure published on the Japanese giant’s website.
On the options list, Ford says the all-new Mondeo will arrive with available features including Lane Keeping Aid+, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Enhanced Active Park Assist and Active City Stop.
And there’s an Australian-first for the all-new Ford Mondeo in the rear seat seatbelt airbags which provide extra protection for the torso and shoulder in the event of an impact.
To be produced at the Ford plant in Valencia, Spain, the all-new Ford Mondeo certainly looks the part and Titanium models will include a glass roof (retractable for the wagon or fixed in the hatchback).
Up front is the new style Ford large grille and the Ford badge has shifted to the nose. As well, there’s a power ‘dome’ bonnet and modern, slim headlights.
A lower roofline that the current model provides an athletic look and at the rear are two-piece wraparound lights.
Ford will no doubt reveal more details during the countdown to launch for the all-new Mondeo.
