Ford Australia To Offer Free SatNav Updates

Ford Australia will, from July 1st, begin offering updates to the satellite navigation maps in vehicles equipped with the SYNC2 infotainment system during scheduled maintenance at dealers across the country.

Previously, should a Ford customer want to upgrade their satellite navigation to include newer roads, landmarks, businesses, and points of interest (usually on an annual basis), Ford would charge $79 for the service at a dealership.

Customers with cars equipped with the SYNC2 system are even eligible for free software and navigation updates even after they complete their car’s scheduled servicing tenure, and will be able to receive the annual updates for up to seven years from their car’s production year. This will continue until 2024, which Ford says SYNC2 updates and development will cease and be succeeded by newer technology.

Graeme Whickman, Ford Australia’s CEO and President, said: “The free map updates makes it easier for our customers to get around, and adds to other unique conveniences such as our free loan car program and the value of our unique Auto Club program. We are investing more in Australia than any other automaker, including billions in R&D, a record number of new vehicles and a new way of doing business at our dealerships.”

Currently, models sold in Australia equipped with the SYNC2 infotainment system include the: Ford Focus, Ford Everest, Ford Ranger, Ford Kuga, Ford Territory, Ford Mondeo, and Ford Falcon.

The Ford Mustang’s infotainment runs SYNC3, in case you were wondering, but should also be eligible for the 7 year’s worth of free navigation updates.
