The moment the wraps were pulled off the dark green Mustang Bullitt at the Detroit Motor Show back in January, we knew we wanted one. Ford themselves must have known that it would be an instant hit, an homage to the most iconic vehicles in Hollywood history, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Steve McQueen film.

Ford Australia has come forward with new details about the Aussie allocation, which is expected to be 700 examples, due to hit our shores this October. Based on the facelifted version of the 6th-generation Mustang GT Fastback, the Bullitt will cost $73,688 (not including on-road costs), or over $10k dearer than the standard version.

Naturally, the cosmetic upgrades are what most of this extra cash goes toward. The Bullitt will feature the famous Dark Highland Green metallic exterior finish, an exclusive colour, paired with a set of 19-inch gloss black wheels designed to replicate the Torq Thrust rollers back in the 60s.

Mustang badges and emblems have also been removed from the car, and the only identifier left would be the stylised ‘Bullitt’ insignia on the fuel filler cap. Meanwhile, the interior has also been given an equally subtle retro treatment: there is green stitching on the dash as well as door trim and a white cue-ball gearshift knob to operate the standard six-speed manual transmission.

The naturally aspirated 5.0-litre Coyote V8 remains largely unchanged, but has been uprated slightly to 345kW and 556Nm - an improvement of 6kW and 10Nm. This about matches the car’s European specification, but is noticeably less than the 358kW found in the North American examples.

It’s unclear at this point what would account for the discrepancy in power and torque figures, but it had been previously confirmed that the Bullitt will benefit from an ‘Open Air Induction System’, a combination of a larger intake manifold, larger throttle bodies, and higher performance air filter from Ford Performance, and power control unit from the Mustang Shelby GT350.
