Two of the automotive industry’s ‘A-Listers’ – Ford and Toyota – have joined forces to develop and produce an advanced hybrid system for pick-ups (utes) and SUVs in North America.
The two industry giants say the new system must meet the demands of customers in these two massive market segments while returning significant gains in fuel efficiency. Expect the new system to be in-market by the end of the decade.
Both companies have independently been working on their own similar systems and the synergy this joint collaboration brings could reap massive rewards in both North America and Japan.
Derrick Kuzack, Ford’s global product development chief said: “This agreement brings together the capability of two global leaders in hybrid vehicles and hybrid technology to develop a better solution more quickly and affordably for our customers.
As well, Ford and Toyota will develop next generation automotive telematics standards and technologies.
