EuroNCAP Award For Mazda’s Rear Vehicle Monitoring System

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Mazda’s Rear Vehicle Monitoring System (RVM) will receive an Advanced Award from EuroNCAP.

Available to European buyers of Mazda3 models, the RVM uses radar sensors in both sides of the rear bumper to monitor vehicles approaching from behind in adjacent lanes. Lights and warning buzzers alert the driver should he try to change lanes.

Then system differ from Blind Spot Monitoring in that it only operates at speeds in excess of 60km/h and is designed to prevent collisions with fast moving traffic coming from behind – a frequent cause of accidents on freeways.

EuroNCAP is to be congratulated for its positive reinforcement by way of its Advanced Awards which recognize automotive manufacturers proactive development of new safety technologies. Some similar barrier testing organizations in other countries seem intent on encouraging as much negative publicity as possible when announcing crash test results, but say nothing positive about the billions of dollars spent by automotive companies in the effort to make cars safer.
