Paris is the home show for Smart. Mercedes-Benz’ mini-car sub-brand is based in Hambach, France so it’s an appropriate location to debut the latest all-new model – the Smart forstars.
Intriguingly called an SUC (Sports Utility Coupe) and said to be a ‘study’ at this stage, the Smart forstars - it has two seats, a glass roof and a 900mm cargo area with a glass cover.
Power comes from a 60kW magneto-electric motor developed by Mercedes’ partner Brabus.
The Smart forstars shown in Paris has a movie theme and mounted on the front of the bonnet is a video projector so occupants can view the latest movies.
Slightly longer and wider than the Smart fortwo, the forstar adopts a more ‘workman-like’ look and is somewhat similar to the Smart for-us which debuted in Detroit earlier this year. The paintwork is tricky – it’s called ‘Alubeam Rouge’ (looks red to us) and has a wet look.
That colour carries over to the inside too where again the Smart forstars breaks new ground with hammock-like seats trimmed in white leather and a two-spoke steering wheel which is open at the top.
