At the Frankfurt Motor Show Lexus played its hand in terms of a future compact SUV by unveiling the aggressive-looking LF-NX concept car.
Lexus International chief Mark Templin pointedly said: “We intent to take advantage of the growing compact SUV segment and expand our SUV lineup in the future. This concept is youthful, confident and innovative.” Translation: Lexus is working on getting the production version of the LF-NX on-sale ASAP.
At 4,640mm in length, with a wheelbase of 2,700mm, the Lexus LF-NX is smaller than the current RX and spot-on to tackle the likes of BMW X1 and Audi Q5.
Highlighting cues from Lexus’ L-finesse design language, including the brand’s new, bold front-end look with the spindle grille, the LF-NX runs a hybrid powertrain using the Atkinson-cycle 2.5-litre petro, engine and a powerful electric motor.
