This is Citroen’s outrageous new C4 derivative – the Cactus. But don’t get too excited Aussie Citroen fans, the local distributor Syme Derby is still working on the business case to get this tough French styling statement here.
News in recent days the Citroen C4 Cactus will be built in right-hand drive will be helpful.
Citroen says the C4 Cactus heralds a new order in automotive design – more design, more comfort, more useful technology and optimized cost of ownership. The sofa style front seats and passenger airbag moved to the roof are tow examples of this new thinking.
But the biggest innovation are the ‘Airbumps’ fitted to the sides and bumpers. Made from thermoplastic polyurethane with inbuilt air capsules, the Citroen C4 Cactus Airbumps are design to absorb minor impacts.
Inside, the emphasis was on de-cluttering to free-up space for driver and passengers. So the dashboard is horizontal and low, a seven-in touchscreen contains the functions normally controlled by buttons and the conventional instrument cluster is replaced by another digital screen.
Plus there’s the Citroen Multicity Connect portal controlled via another seven-inch touchcsreen which includes apps for fuel stations, hotels, traffic and even a ‘Coyote’ app for alerts on high-risk zones.
And despite the comfy-looking sofa style front seats, rear legroom is equivalent to regular Citroen C4 models and the Cactus provides 358-litres of luggage space.
