BMW’s new X5 SUV range will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show and the star of the lineup is the Concept X5 eDrive.
Combining a BMW TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine with plug-in hybrid technology, the X5 eDrive returns fuel consumption of 3.8l/100kms and can cover up to 30kms on zero-emissions thanks to its 70kW electric motor and has a top-speed in pure electric driving of 120km/h.
The electric motor can be used to boost performance under acceleration giving the BMW X5 eDrive a zero to 100km/h time under seven seconds.
BMW mounts the battery under the cargo area and says the X5eDrive affords virtually unchanged cargo capacity. And as a plug-in hybrid you can re-charge the battery from a normal domestic power outlet.
On the outside, the concept car to be shown in Frankfurt runs the hallmark kidney grille in the BMW i brand blue colour and the 21-inch alloy wheels are an aerodynamic design.
