And confirms that the hierarchy will not end with the M8 Coupé.

2019 BMW M8 Competition – Leaked

German luxury marque BMW might only just have revived its long-dormant 8-Series name, but it seems that the 8er family is set to grow at a rapid pace, with the Munich-based firm not slowing down at all. Evidence of them keeping up the pace are newly-published spy shots which, fittingly, show off a new 8-Series variant that should have no trouble keeping up to just about any pace put forward by the current crop of V8 sports cars.

It’s not the BMW M8, no. This is the BMW M8 Competition, the even-hotter version of the hot 8-Series. Some quarters have quipped to say the colour is a touch unflattering but really, the devil’s in the details.

The photos published on German CarForum show off a matte-blue M8 Competition in what appears to be a BMW carpark, as the photos also show a BMW M850i Cabriolet as well as a new 3-Series in the background. Coming back to the M8 Competition, its distinction is made clear by the unique alloys, the extensive use of carbon-fibre, as well as the most-telling clue of all, those being the M8 Competition badges on the back. We can’t help but wonder why, since this is very-clearly the highest-ranking Competition model, that the identification plates just say ‘The M8.’

A peek inside reveals a mishmash of new items, all of which (to us) signal the duality of the M8 as both a comfortable grand-tourer as well as a blisteringly-fast performance machine. The M8 Competition though, judging by the extensive use of carbon fibre inside, shows its obvious preference towards hardcore performance driving over its ‘vanilla’ sibling.

There’s been no mention of what we can expect to find under the bonnet, though we’re pretty sure that the same 4.4-litre biturbo V8 from the M5 will feature here. However, given that the M5 Competition gained some 19kW in its transformation from M5 to M5 Competition, it’s pretty safe to say that the M8 Competition will have the legs over its non-Competition sibling.
