Buttons. Buttons everywhere.
You might be sick of all the disguised photos we’ve shown of the BMW 8-Series, Munich’s new flagship grand-tourer that we know will be upon us before the year is out. However, this update is an important one, as a lucky Instagrammer has given the world a sneak-peek at the cabin of the new 8-Series, something we have yet to see for ourselves.
Images were posted to the Instagram feed of Wilco Blok of what appears to be a couple of 8-Series BMWs in transit, likely to fulfil their testing schedule ahead of launch later this year. What’s clear to see, once you get past the red/black colour scheme, is that there will be several new elements integrated here that we’ve yet to see in other BMWs.
First up is the next-generation instrument display, something that we’ve seen separately at a preview event held by BMW. That fully-digital display is complemented by a high-resolution widescreen infotainment display, nestled atop the dash, sitting above a pair of slim air-conditioning vents.
While carmakers like Land Rover and Audi are going with a double-touchscreen infotainment system to reduce the number of buttons, BMW appears to be keeping to form by festooning the centre stack and central tunnel with as many buttons as they can fit. We can only imagine they control everything from the suspension to the mood of your passenger, as well as whether or not the US president will have a cheeseburger for lunch.
What it likely won’t change is the engine up front, which has been clarified by BMW themselves to be a “completely redeveloped” version of one of their existing V8 petrol mills, which will put out a whopping 390kW and 750Nm. Power will go to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic, most likely to preserve the longevity of the rear tyres…
