BMW has hurriedly issued details on the upcoming 4 Series Coupe after images were published last week on BMW Blog.
Like the regular 4 Series Coupe – which Car Showroom will be driving at the media launch on Wednesday – the all-new 4 Series Convertible is wider and longer in track and wheelbase than the outgoing 3 Series.
And there’s no doubt about the looks – it’s a cracker. There’s the hallmark stretched front-end with traditional BMW kidney grille and circular headlights, set-back passenger cell and short overhangs front and rear.
Front-end Air Curtains and extractor vents behind the rear wheels are again a nod to aero efficiency.
The three-piece retractable hard-top roof is a new design and when folded into the boot affords a pivot function to maximize cargo space. There’s extra soundproofing in the roofliner and even interior lights – very clever.
Inside, BMW says the 4 Series Convertible debuts low-mounted sports seats which provide extra headroom and legroom compared to the outgoing 3 Series models. Sports seats and a neck-warmer system are on the options list.
As usual, the BMW 4 Series Convertible will be offered in ‘Sport Line’, ‘Modern Line’ and ‘luxury Line’ and an M Sport pack is available.
BMW will launch the newcomer in 435i (turbocharged six-cylinder), 428i (turbocharged four-cylinder) and 420d (turbo-diesel). All are EU6standard for fuel-consumption and emissions.
Drive is via six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions.
BMW Australia will announce local details shortly.
