Three cars, and a bespoke new service to showcase Gaydon’s finest.
The 2017 Geneva motor show certainly seems to be an exciting one for Aston Martin, who have not one, but three vehicles to show off this year. The Vanquish S will be making its global motor show debut here, along with the European motor show debut of the Aston Martin AM-RB 001 hypercar. The last car of the three is the ‘DB11 Q,’ designed to showcase the capabilities of Aston Martin’s rapidly-expanding ‘Q’ personalisation division.
We’ve covered both the AM-RB 001 and the updated Vanquish S in previous reports, and it seems to us that Aston Martin’s showing at this years’ Geneva motorshow is focused predominantly on displaying the sheer breadth of ability of their Q division. First established in 2012, Q by Aston Martin has provided customers the ability to tailor their Aston’s to their exacting specifications. Chief creative officer at Aston Martin, Marek Reichman, said that they have “set strong foundations for the service, and have had continued success. Now we have the opportunity to work with our customers and take personalisation to a different level.”
What Reichmann was alluding to was the offering of a ‘Commission’ service by the Q division. “A step into the world of the truly bespoke, individual sports car” is how Aston Martin describes it, as Q will be with a customer step-by-step from conception to completion, resulting in a unique vehicle for only the most discerning customer. “It's a commissioning process,” Dr Matthew Bennett, Q by Aston Martin’s general manager explains, “the customer is working much more closely with us here at Gaydon. The only limit is your imagination – every new commission starts with a blank sheet of paper.”
‘Commission’ by Q can accommodate any request, with the sky being the limit. The “ultimate commission” for them would be an entirely unique car. Aston Martin has taken on commissions before, resulting in show-stopping stunners like the CC-100 Speedster Concept (their 100th birthday present), as well as the Vantage GT12 Roadster, which was based on the racing-bred Vantage GT12 Coupe.
To showcase the abilities of the Q division, Aston Martin will be bringing a personalised DB11 to their stand at Geneva. Its full name is the ‘DB11 Q by Aston Martin,’ and it’s finished in a unique Zaffre Blue paint scheme, with details in gloss, satin twill, and forged carbon fibre. The front splitter, side sills, rear diffuser side strakes, bonnet strakes, and door mirrors are finished in the latter composite material. The DB11 Q you see here features options from the ‘Q by Aston Martin Collection,’ which sees the upper- and lower-cabin finished in semi-aniline ‘Obsidian Black’ leather, quilted leather upholstery, and new wood elements. The Q Collection also finished the wheels in a special tone-matching tint.
