All-New BMW 5 Series (G30) Revealed In Leaked Images

We can count down the hours to the official unveil of the seventh-generation BMW 5 Series (G30), but in case the wait is unbearable, these new leaked images showing the car’s exterior in its entirety should suffice.

These shots can be traced back to Germancarfoum, and we picked up by the folks at Carscoops. What they reveal wouldn’t necessarily surprise anyone who has been keeping an eye of the slow-drip of information in the lead up to this all-new generation.

And it is an all-new car, to be sure. It’s a point that we may need to emphasise given how some may find the exterior design to be too similar to the current sixth-generation (F10) 5 Series as to almost be boring.

The profile, proportions, and cues may not have changed much but every panel is new and closely resembles a smaller version of the sixth-generation 7 Series (G11), even down to the side sill just south of the two front wheel wells used to dissipate trapped air, reducing drag and aids in cooling down the brakes.

We knew this going in, of course, and the new car being an evolutionary step over its predecessor shouldn’t really be a surprise at this point. The car does have enough visual changes to distinguish itself from its immediate forebear, and let’s face it, there’s nobody who would mistake it for being anything other than a BMW 5 Series.

This particular car, though, seems to be a 540i as evidenced by the rear badging. As such, its larger tyres and bodykit likely means it is fitted with the M Sport pack. Under its hood, we should find 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol motor from BMW’s familiar B-Series engines (B58). Unless they alter the tune from the state we find it in the current 340i, it should be generating 239kW and 450Nm here as well.

This will likely be the most potent petrol variant of the G30 5 Series, only topped by the diesel powered triple-turbo M550 xDrive. North of that we’ll see the new M5 (which we’ve already seen testing) but that will carry a different internal designation as well (G90) to go with its 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8.

Again, we’re less than a day away from the full unveil of the all-new 5 Series, where we’ll learn all there is to know about the car rather than speculate based upon on leaks. In the end, what will matter is only whether this G30 is an overall step forward over the highly acclaimed F10.
