The historic Giulietta badge returns to the Alfa Romeo lineup with this stylish newcomer set for world debut early next year at the Geneva Motor Show.
Australian sales are scheduled for the last quarter of 2010.
The new Giulietta is a high-tech step forward for Alfa Romeo - a significant departure from the first Alfas to wear the badge back in the 1950s. The stylish wedge-shape is a compact design - 4.35 metres long, 1.46 metres high and 1.8 metres wide.
Using an all-new chassis architecture, the Alfa Giulietta comes with 'Alfa DNA' - a driver-selectable system with three set-ups (Dynamic, Normal and All weather) which modifies the parameters of the engine, steering, electronic differential and stability control system (VDC).
Initially, Giulietta buyers will have a choice of four Euro 5 compliant turbocharged engines - two 1.4-litre petrols, and two diesels - 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre. A high performance 1750 TBi engine will follow later.
Styling is typical Alfa Romeo brilliance although traditional Alfa enthusiasts may raise their eyebrows with the new badge on the front bumper between the air intakes. The LED front lights have a Daytime Running function.
LED lights are also used in the muscular rear end styling.
In profile the stylists have accentuated the wedge shape and again concealed the door handles. Coupe-shaped side windows add to the elegant appearance.
Despite the Giulietta's dynamic, sporty looks, practicality gets a big tick - Alfa says the boot capacity is an impressive 350 litres.
