Prices and specs due in December, but Alfa Romeo’s already increasing its sales projections.
Revealed in November of last year, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV will only be making Australian landfall sometime early next year. This was confirmed during the launch of Alfa Romeo’s Giulia Quadrifoglio performance saloon recently.
Steve Zanlunghi, Fiat-Chrysler Australia’s managing director, told the media to expect more details of the Stelvio closer to launch. “It’s supposed to go on sale in the first quarter of next year, so [pricing and details will come] probably in December,” Zanlunghi said.
In anticipation of the Stelvio, FCA Australia has increased their sales targets for the Italian SUV by a large margin. “We have increased our volume aspirations for Stelvio by 25 per cent locally, just having seen it. That’s how strong we think that product is,” he said. Considering how hotly contested this end of the market is, and how widely acclaimed the Stelvio is, even that estimate may be a little modest.
When it arrives next year, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio (especially in Quadrifoglio form) will pose a uniquely Italian headache to contenders like the Porsche Macan and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, as well as the BMW X3 and X4. FCA Australia is confident that the Stelvio will be its most popular offering, and we’re pretty confident that they’re going to be right.
