The shooting brake body style has had something of a renaissance in recent years with both Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari adopting them with the CLS (and CLA) Shooting Brake and FF (and subsequent GTC4 Lusso), respectively.
Jaguar too jumped on the bandwagon, with a more practical estate version of the XF called the Shooting Brake. But what if Jag extended the body style to some of its other cars, or its sportiest one right now: the F-Type. Even Toyota tried it out in with an 86 coupe.
X-Tomi had a similar thought but then proceeded to digitally craft what one might look like. And, to no one’s surprise, it look’s exactly like something Jaguar should build. The lines seem to match perfectly with the F-Type’s styling.
Obviously there would be more space behind the front seats to accommodate extra cargo or passengers, making it a stronger case to have as family car. And with the same 5.0-litre supercharged V8 under its bonnet, is the perfect weekend stress reliever too.
There’s a lot of paths Jaguar could take to advance its sports car agenda. Some, including us, do miss the XK of yore for its graceful lines and gentlemanly persona that, at the best of times, was more deserving of being James Bond’s company car of choice than an Aston Martin.
Then again, the baddies in those movies drove the Jag. And those are usually the cooler cars, historically.
Ferrari seem to be enjoying some healthy sales with the GTC4 Lusso, recently unveiled with less expensive variant with a turbo-V8. So far, it has had the market all to itself (unless you count the Bentley Continental GT). Maybe it’s time for Jaguar to step in.
