Subaru Australia has today announced a recall notice for just under 35,000 cars. The recall is (presently) limited to just two models, those being 2009 model year Foresters and 2008-2009 model year Imprezas. The recall for these cars are part of a wider recall for faulty Takata airbag inflators, the ramifications of which are still being felt around the globe.
The Takata recall has affected numerous cars across several manufacturers, and Subaru is one of the latest victims. The offending inflators are very sensitive to moisture, and prolonged exposure could potentially cause the inflator to “rupture during airbag deployment.”
This, naturally, poses a significantly higher risk to occupants, who will be in the way of any flying fragments from the inflator assembly during the deployment of the airbag. As such, we advise that potentially affected owners check their VIN numbers here, and visit their nearest Subaru dealership at the soonest possible convenience.
Subaru Australia will be reaching out to owners via mail as soon as possible.
