The facelifted 2020 Volkswagen Passat has finally gone on sale in Australia - in 140 TSI Business form - after months of delays caused by changing European WLTP emissions regulations. The Passat was originally intended to go on sale at the end of 2019 but it now looks to get a staggered launch that draws out into 2020.

That said, the 140 TSI Business is what we Aussies will receive first. The Passat will arrive in Saloon and Wagon body styles, with a new engine and added technology priced from $45,990 and $47,990 respectively.

Business is a new variant name for the Passat range, as is the engine they’ve stuffed under the bonnet. This 140 TSI variant employs a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder which produces 140kW (thus the name) and 320Nm of twist. The mill is mated to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission which drives the front axle.

Standard equipment on the 140 TSI Business include new LED headlights, refreshed tail lamps, new-look bumpers front and back, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, you get Vienna leather, power adjustable front seats and tri-zone climate control. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto come as standard too.

Further, it receives Volkswagen’s new IQ.Drive safety suite that’s bundled together with the new Travel Assist pack which includes adaptive cruise control, active lane keep assist and speed sign recognition. Apart from that, customers will get also get AEB, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, assisted parking, 360-degree camera and driver fatigue alert.

In a previous report by CarAdvice, it suggests the 162 TSI and 206 TSI 4Motion variants are slated to follow the newly-outed 140 TSI Business. The 162 and 206 TSI variants are expected in both Highline and R-Line trim levels. However, the marque has kept mum about their arrival.

Moreover, Passat Alltrack is said to arrive later this year with the same 162 TSI powerplant under the bonnet with 4Motion all-wheel drive. Though, according to the same report, the Alltrack with the 140 TDI engine might not arrive in Australia, initially at least. Only time will tell what lies for the Passat range.
