A little help from Mercedes-Benz for eager owners.
Mercedes-Benz’s eagerly anticipated entry into the ute market with its X-Class luxury high-rider has, thus far, only been seen in concept form. And while the marque’s management has said that the production version of the X-Class Concept should not differ too much from what we’ve already seen, there has yet to be any properly confirmed exterior images or drivetrain specifications.
Despite this, Mercedes-Benz’s UK arm has opened the reservation books for the X-Class, to “ensure they are amongst the first to order the exciting new pick-up.” Presently, potential punters can leave a refundable £1000 (or $1635) deposit to get ahead of what Mercedes-Benz claims as “phenomenal early demand for the X-Class,” and get their ‘luxury ute’ before their neighbours do.
In Australia, the PR and corporate-communications manager for Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia has said that interest in the new X-Class is very high indeed, but that our country doesn’t have the same facilities that the UK does in its ability to offer a formal deposit system. He said that they are “currently taking registrations of interest,” and that there have been “significant order enquiries so far, with a level of interest that just keeps growing.”
With Australia’s hunger for utes seemingly insatiable (with the Toyota Hilux topping sales charts for 2016 rather comfortably), the Mercedes-Benz X-Class is likely to become a rip-roaring success on our shores, if the price is right. Premium vehicle sales are also on the rise, and combining those segments may see unparalleled sales success in the future for the German luxury marque.
