New-age Wrangler sees a (relatively) radical redesign.

The hotly-anticipated 2018 Jeep Wrangler has finally been revealed, thanks to these images that are (allegedly) confirmed to have come from within Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles. The images themselves were uploaded to JLWrangler Forums, which previously circulated some pretty awesome renderings of what we could expect from this new generation.

Seems they weren’t far off the mark. The new Wrangler sports a steel frame (and not aluminium, as previously speculated), though major body parts and panels will be made of aluminium to keep weight down. FCA boss Sergio Marchionne has previously confirmed that the new Wrangler will feature forced-induction powertrains, to improve fuel economy and consumption.

Jeep fans can rejoice in the knowledge that the new Wrangler will retain its ability to be disassembled, with a removable roof & doors. Among the many visual changes, the most noteworthy include a larger glasshouse (likely to aid headroom & visibility), LED light strips on the front fenders (likely to be daytime-running lights and indicators), a new iteration of the seven-slat grille (with the headlights eating into the outermost slats), new doorhandles (that may accommodate some form of keyless entry system), wraparound taillights, and slightly bigger cargo space.

The Wrangler is expected to debut sometime this year, with sales to commence either in Q4 2017 or Q1 2018. Aside from the three-door Wrangler and five-door Wrangler Unlimited, the new Jeep is expected to debut a ute body style, which will undoubtedly find many homes Down Under.
