Improved kit, sharper looks, and a mouthful of a name. All standard.

The high-riding Volkswagen Passat Alltrack wagon gets a new addition to the range, as the Wolfsburg Edition makes a debut down under. Additional equipment and some styling revisions sees the crossover look and feel just that little bit smarter.

On the outside, revisions are limited to snazzy 19-inch Albertville alloy wheels (which are an inch larger than on the normal Alltrack), and up front there are now standard-fit LED headlights. If those aren’t enough to mark the Wolfsburg out from the rest of the pack, there’s also a generous smattering of ‘Wolfsburg’ badges around the car.

The cabin sees more improvements though, with Volkswagen’s new 12.3-inch Active Info Display instrument cluster featured here. Passengers are also cosseted with Nappa leather seat upholstery, and a standard-fit automatic boot lid lend to the Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg’s luxury appeal.

Motivation for the Wolfsburg Edition comes from the same 2.0-litre turbodiesel as the vanilla Passat Alltrack, with 140kW of power and 400Nm of twist on offer. Theres a six-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic employed here, and power is (naturally) sent to all four wheels. Fuel consumption is claimed at 5.4l/100km.

The Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg Edition is available in showrooms now for $54,990 plus on-road costs, but as part of a promotion, it can be had at that price drive-away until the 31st of March 2017. The vanilla Passat Alltrack remains unchanged at $50,790 plus ORCs, but is available through the same promotional period at just $49,990 drive-away.
