Ahead of its scheduled debut at the LA Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz has seen it prudent to give us a glimpse at its latest ultra-luxurious offering, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet.
Teased in video on Mercedes-Benz’s social media accounts, we only managed to catch some details of the new uber-cabriolet, the newest addition in the German carmaker’s Maybach offshoot. While the Maybach S-Class saw an increase in wheelbase and design changes to the rear, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 seems to eschew structural changes.
Luxury and rarity are clearly the name of the game, with a small plaque on the central tunnel denoting a limited run of just 300 units. This special edition of sorts should include unique wheels, chrome trim, interior trim, and a Burmester premium audio system, topped off with a generous smattering of Maybach badges.
There’s no mention of what lurks under the bonnet, but the claimed 12l/100km fuel consumption figures has us believing that the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet will be powered by a variation of the twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 that currently powers S65 AMG models. In that application, the ‘biturbo’ kicks out 463kW and 1000Nm of torque, going through a 7-speed automatic before hitting the ground through the rear wheels.
