The well-loved and revered G-Class (or G-Wagen) is set for its first major overhaul in its history, with the outgoing car remaining largely unchanged since its debut in 1979. The Geländewagen’s iconic shape is to be retained, but with several nip-and-tuck changes to keep it relevant and fighting-fit.
Photos circulating on the net has revealed a next-generation G-Class testing with what appeared to be a box on the rear half. This has led to speculation that the G-Class may offer a ute-bodied variant in the future, employing the same strategy as the next-generation Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover Defender.
Though we cannot at this time get a hold of the mule photos, we have a rough idea of what the G-ute might look like, based on ute-bodied variants of yesteryear. But for a more concrete idea of what a Mercedes-Benz ute might be like, check out our gallery below of the confirmed Mercedes-Benz X-Class, which is set to redefine how utility a ute really has to be.
