The two-door coupe version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class that launched mere months ago is due to premiere at the upcoming 2017 Detroit Motor Show in January just as the four door saloon did in 2016.
Now, though, we have our first look at the car’s body and cabin through images taken of a leaked brochure, with these images were obtained from Belgian website Autotidjd.be.
The car, pretty though it is, doesn’t stray much afield from the W213 E-Class saloon save for the altered roofline and tauter proportions demanded by the move to a coupe body style and from the front, equivalent versions could even stand closer like-for-like scrutiny.
But like the C-Class Coupe, it’s the midsection and the rear where the visual changes are most apparent. Obviously the roofline is more sloping, but the tail lamps are slimmer and more dramatic than its four-door sibling. Rounding it off is a subtle boot spoiler.
The interior, though, has borrowed more heavily from the standard-form E-Class, with what seems to be identical dashboard fascia, switchgear layout, and digital instrument panel. However, new air conditioning vents and a set of more ensconcing bolstered seats can be seen as well.
In addition to the visual differences, the range appears to offer a single diesel engine in the E 220 d which produces 143kW and 400Nm from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel. It manages the 0-100km/h dash in 7.4 seconds, putting it ahead of the E 200 entry-level petrol variant’s 7.8 second dash, which uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four pot with 135kW and 300Nm.
The E300 slots in as mid-range E-Class Coupe and is powered by the same engine as the E200 but boosted to deliver 180kW and 370Nm, trimming that acceleration time to 6.4 seconds. AMG-Line additions can be optioned, naturally, but a full high-performance version isn’t on the cards just yet.
For the time being, then, we have the E 400 4MATIC, which uses the same 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 that features in all the current-generation ‘sub-AMG’ versions of Mercedes-Benzes. Here it churns out 245kW and 480Nm and, thanks to all-wheel drive, reaches 100km/h in 5.3 seconds. All variants of the E-Class Coupe will have shifting duties handled by a nine-speed automatic transmission.
