It can’t wait to get a move on.
Pipped for an official unveiling at Geneva, it seems that the PSA Group’s luxury offshoot DS can’t keep its upcoming SUV under wraps, as the DS7 Crossback has been spotted out and about ahead of its debut.
DS, previously a Citroen sub-brand, is now looking to strengthen its portfolio with a raft of new models. The DS7 Crossback will be the first of a new generation of DS cars, that PSA say will pair style and substance in effortless harmony. Style-wise, the DS7 caught here (we apologise for the low-resolution images) show a brightly-coloured high-riding wagon, though that’s about the extent of it.
As far as looks go, the DS7 is something of a disappointment. Even compared to the existing DS5, this new DS7 can even be categorised as bland. Up front, there’s a large hexagonal grille (that isn’t much unlike the kind you find on an Audi), with chrome ‘wings’ that underline the sharp multi-lens headlights. Another chrome element lower down helps emphasise the width of the new crossover, while a line of LED daytime running lights at the edges of the bumper aim to do much the same.
The rear wasn’t seen in any of the photos carried by Citroenfeng, but we expect it to look more unique than the profile. Down the sides, the DS7 looks broadly similar to every other crossover on the market, with little in the way of distinctive or unique design embellishments that we’re so used to seeing on DS concept and production cars. Maybe the low-res photos are hiding something. We’ll have to wait and see.
The DS7 is likely to sit on Peugeot’s new EMP2 platform, which should see powertrains come in the form of turbocharged 4-cylinder engines running on petrol or diesel. Manual and automatic transmissions are already offered for other models built on EMP2, and this will likely be mirrored by DS. We’d like to claim that all-wheel drive will be available, but it’s too soon to say.
With this preview of sorts, it’s almost inevitable that the DS7 will be given its official unveiling at the 2017 Geneva motor show, which kicks off next month. Take a gander at the gallery below, and if you can spot something we’ve missed, let us know in the comments below.
