The Italians are coming back strong.

2017 Alfa Romeo Stelvio First Edition Detailed

Resurgent Italian automaker Alfa Romeo, riding high on the success of its Giulia sedan, has now detailed the ‘First Edition’ variant of its next hot offering, the Stelvio SUV. It may not be even half as aggressive as the Quadriofoglio that debuted the Stelvio nameplate, but it’s got enough visual flair to win more than a few fans.

Outside, the First Edition gets dressed up with 20-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights replete with LED daytime running lights, a smattering of chrome, and coloured brake callipers hiding behind the alloys. The interior sees niceties like heated front seats, wood trim, steering-mounted paddle shifters, an 8.8-inch central infotainment screen, satellite navigation, and a 7.0-inch driver’s information display squeezed between the analogue dials.

Standard safety kit is pretty good too. Things like an integrated braking system, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), land departure warning, all-round sensors, and a rear-view camera come bundled with Stelvio First Editions.

Motivation for the Stelvio First Edition comes from a 2.0-litre, turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that we first saw in the entry-level Giulia Veloce saloon, capable of 206kW and 400Nm. This torquey unit sends its power to all four corners via an eight-speed ZF transmission. The First Edition can complete the century sprint in just 5.7-seconds, worthy of Alfa Romeo claiming that it’s the class best.
