Ford has released further details on the all new 2011 SZ Ford Territory. As previoulsy reported the folks over at Ford have finally delivered a diesel engine and today released all of technical details.
When the 2011 SZ Ford Territory is officially launched next month, buyers will have a choice of either a rear wheel drive or the all wheel drive 2.7 litre V6 Diesel or the rear wheel drive with an updated version of the existing 4.0 litre V6 petrol engine.
The new Ford diesel engine has been designed and built at the Diesel Technical Centre in Dagenham UK. Testing of the new diesel engine has taken place in both Australia and USA from 45 degrees in the Alice Springs down to minus 25 degrees in Detroit, Michigan
The diesel engine produces 140kW @ 4000 whilst 440Nm delivered across 1900-2500 rpm. The diesel engine is coupled with a 6 speed automatic transmission. Towing capacity on the AWD diesel is rated at 2700kg and 2300kg for the RWD diesel.
The main advantage of the diesel is improved fuel economy and towing capacity. The diesel delivers up to 32% improvement on fuel economy over the old petrol engine. The Ford Territory diesel RWD will achieve 6.5 litres per 100kms in highway driving, whilst the AWD achieves 7.2 litres per 100kms in the same conditions. From the 75 litre fuel tank drivers will be able to achieve 1154kms from a single tank of fuel from highway driving in the RWD and 1041kms in the AWD.
Ford have also updated the existing 4.0 litres I6 petrol engine which now produces 198kw at 6000rpm an increase of 5 kW with peak toque now 391Nm at 3250rpm and increase of 8Nm. These improvements have been gained by changing the fast-burn cylinder head design, introducing a new light-weight dual-resonance intake manifold, and adding a new electronic throttle body and new fuel rail system.
Whilst not achieving such dramatic improvements as the diesel the 4.0 litre petrol engines fuel economy has improved to 10.6 litre per 100km down from 11.6 litre per 100km for the 5 seater and dwon from 12.0litre per 100km for the 7 seven seater.
Gone is the old 4 speed auto, it has been replaced with the new 6 speed transmission that allows the driver to select 3 drive modes - a normal drive, auto performance mode and manual gear changes. Towing capacity for the RWD petrol engine is 2300kg.

The improvements don’t just stop with the engine and power train Ford have attempted to be deliver the new Territory with class leading refinement. This means that Ford has worked hard to eliminate wind, road and power train noise. This translate in to the real world for people like you and I to continue on with our conversation inside the cabin or allowing us to keep the radio at the same level without be drowned out by wind, road or engine noise.
Helping improve refinement in-side the cabin is a new laminated acoustic windscreen, improved rubber seals, redesigned engine mounts and a new extensive sound deadening package just to name a few.
Ford has worked just as hard to make the car more appealing to drive. They have added new suspension, springs, shock absorbers and stabiliser bars. They have also tweaked how the car handles at high speed making the car feel less “nervous”.
Ford will release the car next month in Canberra with the full pricing and specs. CarShowRoom is looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the new Ford Territory.
