We know Ford’s German-origin Mondeo is a great mid-sizer. Well it’s so large it actually should be booted out of the mid-size segment and called a ‘large’ car.
And we know the Mondeo will be an outstanding replacement for the Falcon when Ford’s local manufacturing ceases in 2016.
But time waits for no-one and even we’re surprised to learn this year is 20th anniversary of the Mondeo’s launch. Gee it seems only yesterday we were at Silverstone, England watching Tiff Needell ‘punt’ his team-mate Nigel Mansell into a massive crash in the British Touring Car Championship series race…both driving Ford Mondeos. The Stig was always keen to win!
In fact 4.5-million Mondeos have been sold and Ford’s mid-sizer remains hugely popular with major British fleet buyers. Hard to believe that when the Mondeo appeared it was the first to offer a drivers’ airbag as standard in Britain.
The latest generation all-new Ford Mondeo will launch next year.
