$50,000 in cash and a $20,000 international VIP experience awaits the winner of the inaugural of the one-make Toyota 86 racing series which will be held in conjunction with V8 Supercar races including the Bathurst 1000 and grand final at Sydney Olympic Park.
The driver who finishes second will pocket $30,000 in cash and the third place finisher will score $15,000.
In addition, another driver deemed to be the series’ rising star will be awarded a drive in a round of New Zealand’s Toyota Finance 86 championship including flights and accommodation.
Toyota Australia is backing the local series to find new motorsport talent.
“An entry fee of just $1,500 per round is easily the lowest amount for any mainstream national series which reflects our desire to ensure the Toyota 86 Racing Series is affordable for anyone with the passion and talent to compete,” revealed Toyota Australia boss Tony Cramb.
Each round will comprise three races – one on the Saturday and two on the Sunday and the 32-car field will include entries for up to five professional drivers who will not be eligible for series points.
Control specifications for the cars – including engine ECU, tyres, exhaust, brakes, suspension, roll cage and aero kit – have been developed by Neal Bates Motorsport.
One make series for the likes of Ford Laser, Triumph TR7 and Alfa Romeo Alfasud have been the launching pad for drivers such as Mark Skaife, Garry Waldon and Tony Longhurst.
